We are always looking for smart people to join our team. To be considered, please review our Q&As below and then send us your resume and cover letter.
How is Working Planet different from other firms?
At Working Planet, our goal is to help companies around the world profitably and efficiently engage in paid online marketing. Our success with managing millions of dollars in ad spend can be attributed to our unique, finely-tuned approach.
We use a highly developed quantitative blend of data analysis, data modeling, and high-impact execution of online marketing management. With this unique blend of Agency, Consulting, and Media Buying, we execute profitable digital campaigns tailored to our clients’ financial needs and goals.
What type of work does Working Planet usually do?
As a quantitative digital agency, we perform the “Back-of-the-House” work of determining the value of advertising as it relates to revenues and profits, and then deploy and manage campaigns armed with that knowledge.
We combine the strength of thoughtful analysis with the speed and power of data-driven marketing to directly manage tens of millions of dollars in paid digital advertising in Search, Content, Display, Social Media, and Retargeting.
Does Working Planet focus on any particular industries?
We specialize in situations where complexity makes the valuing of advertising a challenge. Because of this we have worked with many B2B, B2C, and non-profits that have multiple revenue streams, audiences, brands, or lead-based sales cycles. As an example, we have worked with many Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) companies, as churn rate and lifetime value (LTV) calculations add complexity.
What is a typical career path at Working Planet?
Everyone at Working Planet starts their training as an Account Associate. After mastering core concepts and techniques, Account Associates advance to Account Managers, working on a small handful of accounts under the tutelage of a very experienced Account Director. Account Managers advance to Senior Account Manager after demonstrating mastery of a considerable body of knowledge.
Senior Account Managers take on the additional responsibilities of training and client communications, in preparation for ultimately leading a team of their own as an Account Director. In addition to directly managing clients, Account Directors oversee the Account Associates, Account Managers and Senior Account Managers working on their assigned client accounts. They report to our Senior Directors, who oversee our cross-functional Operations department.
We do not impose an arbitrary timetable on advancement. It happens as quickly as someone can demonstrate mastery at each step.
Do I need to have a Business or Economics degree to apply?
Absolutely not! While you do need a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree to work here, you do not have to come from a specific discipline or have a particular background. You do need the intellectual heft to take on hard problems and the grit and determination to solve them, along with strong Excel skills, intense curiosity, comfort with numbers and basic statistical concepts, and a base-level knowledge of business concepts.
Working Planet staff see the results of their work, all day, every day. If you want to solve the puzzle of profitable customer acquisition for our clients by understanding how users behave, and applying that to the profitable execution of online campaigns, we might be the place for you.
How many hours is the typical workweek?
40-50 hours a week is normal. Time management, organization, accuracy and efficiency go a long way to controlling the work day/week. The first few days of the month are very busy, as we are processing our thoughtful reporting on the financial impact of advertising for our clients. We are not a consultancy that strives to burn the midnight oil and burnout our staff, but we do meet our deadlines. Work life balance is important to us and to our staff.
What is the corporate culture?
We’re casual about the things we can be, but serious about the work we do. We don’t have much of a dress code, and it is not unusual for staff to bring their dogs to work, but when it comes to the work, we do it well, and we do it right. We’re transparent and honest with our clients, and with each other. We practice Open Book Management, so everyone knows what they are contributing to our bottom line, which helps keep us all focused on our clients’ bottom lines as well.
We’re here for each other, we’re collaborative, we’re smart (but humble, because being smart doesn’t automatically mean being right), and we’re nice (you have to be nice to work here; life it too short to work with jerks). While we may have a competitive streak or two, we always know that our clients’ competitors are the other team on the field.
Why Providence? What is Providence like?
We’re in Providence because of access to talent and the high quality of life here in the Ocean State! Many of our staff (and our founders) moved here from elsewhere because of the Big-City-in-a-Small-Format life that Providence offers, plus the easy access to more coastline per square mile than anywhere in the country. About a third of our staff choose to live within easy walking/biking distance to work, and very few commutes are more than 10-20 minutes.
Providence is not the biggest city in the Northeast, but it is one of the most interesting. Most often compared to places like Austin TX, or Portland OR, Providence has a thriving food/design/music/arts vibe that is unique and has a personality all its own!
